Field trials allow pointing breeds to demonstrate the instincts and athleticism for which they were developed.

How a trial works
Dogs usually compete in braces and stakes, with planted or released birds such as quail. A typical stake lasts about 30 minutes. Dogs are judged on their search, bird work, style, application and—in advanced stakes—steadiness and retrieving requirements.
Puppy and Derby stakes give younger dogs experience while adult stakes recognize more finished performances. Events may be conducted on foot or horseback depending on the stake and venue.
Getting started
WCWDCA traditionally holds field trials and offers training opportunities. New handlers are welcome to observe, volunteer and ask experienced members for help before entering.
